FAQ'S

Q1. Why should I buy a sectional steel shed instead of a wooden shed?
Steel garages are durable. As opposed to wood, steel is long lasting and won't split, crack or warp. Steel is maintenance free and won't decay or collect mildew.

Q2. How secure are steel garages and garden sheds?
All Hurricane products are supplied with a two point locking system roller door. Pedestrian doors are fitted with a three lever locking mechanism, to help resist against forced entry.

Q3. How strong are hurricane garages?
Hurricane garages are bolted to a concrete base using 16mm thunderbolts. The technology used to manufacture steel sheets results in the steel's strength coming from the material and how it's shaped, not the thickness of the steel. Therefore the strength to weight ratio is excellent.

Q4. Do I need a base?
Yes, these buildings require a substantial concrete base of no less than 5 inches ( 12.5cm). A base drawing will be provided to all customers on receipt of an order.

Q5. Will I need planning permission?
In the vast majority of cases planning permission will not be required. Our design is well within the permitted height constraints. As long it is suitably positioned away from your property and your not restricting views to any public highway you should be okay. There are of course the odd exceptions; conservation areas, areas of outstanding natural beauty, construction on a site where there is a 'listed' building, however most Local Authorities will give it the green light. Overall it is rare that a planning application has to ever be filled out.

Q6. Can plumbing and electrics be installed?
Yes, as long as you have water and electric utilities to your main building. We have incorporated into the design provisions to connect to any of the utilities that you may require.

Q7. How soon can I have one?
Obviously we are finding that each customer's requirement is quite unique in terms of positioning, personal preferences with utilities, decoration, landscaping etc. but we pride ourselves in providing a 'ready to go' shed/garage much sooner than you think!

Q8. Can you fit a side pedestrian door on a garage?
Yes we can fit a pedestrian door on your garage. This door is fully lockable. A steel pedestrian or an double glazed door can be fitted on the insulated range for a extra.

Q9. Can extra windows be fitted?
Yes, we can provide a single glazed window or double glazed window (for the fully insulated range).

Q10. Where do you deliver?
We deliver through the republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Q11. Can you build a shed to specific sizes?
We can build to any specifications and can arrange doors and windows to suit the customer's needs.

Q12. Can you divide a shed into different sections?
Yes we can build partitions to divide your unit into sections. This can have a door in the partition or an external door can be fitted.

Q13. What are your opening hours?
- Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm
- Saturday 10am to 4pm
- Closed for lunch daily 1.pm to 2pm

Q14. Do you have a show home or office that I can visit?
With a little notice, we will be more than happy to arrange for you to visit one of our existing customers' buildings.

Q15. How easy is it to erect the building myself?
Hurricane will provide you with a comprehensive assembly guide free of charge with your new building. In addition we have a telephone support "hot line" just in case you need immediate assistance. The time depends on a number of factors: the weather, your competence and the assistance that you have. It is advisable that for some parts of the build that you have some assistance. Having said that it is possible to build our buildings within a day. However some of our customers take a little longer on site preparation. It's really up to you!

Q16. Can the shed/garage be used by the mobility impaired?
Yes. Although a wheel chair user may require some modifications to be made. It is our policy to make modifications to any of the models to suit the individual requirements of the user. Please contact us with your requirements.

Q17. Can I specify the external finish?
Yes. Hurricane products comes in an extensive range of colours.
